Our Roots

FT-Tønder began with a shared passion for woodworking and a desire to share these skills with others. A group of dedicated craftspeople came together, recognising the value of traditional trades and the importance of passing them on to future generations. They envisioned a space where people could learn, create, and connect through the art of sløjd, carpentry, and joinery.

Driven by this vision, they established a volunteer organisation committed to providing accessible courses and workshops. From humble beginnings, FT-Tønder has grown into a thriving community hub. It continues to provide opportunities for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to explore their creativity, develop practical skills, and foster a love for the craft. The organisation is a testament to the power of collaboration and the enduring appeal of handmade creations.

Our Why

We believe in the power of craftsmanship to enrich lives and build community. In a world increasingly dominated by mass production, we seek to preserve and promote the skills of woodworking. We understand that these trades not only provide valuable skills but also foster creativity, problem-solving abilities, and a deep appreciation for quality and sustainability. We are also convinced of the therapeutic benefits of working with one’s hands, reducing stress and improving mental well-being.

Our commitment is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone can learn and grow. We aim to empower individuals to discover their creative potential, connect with others who share their interests, and contribute to a vibrant local culture. By offering affordable courses and workshops, we ensure that the skills of woodworking are accessible to all, regardless of age, background, or experience. We strive to inspire a lifelong love of learning and making, ensuring that these valuable traditions continue to thrive for generations to come.
